Comments from MPLTL Students in Spring 2007

"I improved at performing self-talk while taking tests, which helped me focus on the important details and pretty much stopped me from making any careless errors.”

"I learned not to be afraid to ask for help or talk to others about problems I don't understand."

"The peer leaders were really good at teaching and explaining the problems at a level that is helpful. Having two people is very helpful."

Due to popular request, , Cornerstone is once again offering MPLTL this Spring. MPLTL is a section of PLTL reserved for students with LD and/or ADHD. You will cover the same problems in MPLTL that you would in a regular PLTL group, but the group will be run by two peer leaders instead of one. They receive advanced training to make the course content (and the PLTL experience) as welcoming, helpful, and clear as possible.

Like all PLTL groups, your MPLTL session will meet once a week for 2 hours throughout the semester.   University records will not reflect any “special” notation that distinguishes your MPLTL group from any other PLTL group.

In addition to signing up for MPLTL, you will also register for a 1-credit Academic Coaching Seminar.  This is run by Dr. David Parker, an LD/ADHD specialist and learning strategies instructor at Cornerstone who has provided academic coaching to college students with LD/ADHD for nearly 20 years.  The Academic Coaching Seminar meets for 1 hour per week with no outside assignments, papers, or tests.  Your credit is earned by attendance and active participation.

The Seminar will help you develop or enhance the study skills needed to succeed in Chemistry or Calculus courses.  You will practice course-specific techniques for utilizing website resources, problem solving, and test-taking.  You will also learn about time management, organization, and stress management techniques that you can apply to these and other courses.

To sign up or simply get more information, contact Dr. David Parker at (314) 935-8064 or david_parker@wustl.edu.
