Free Workshops to help Students Draft and Improve Their Medical School Personal Statements

The personal statement is one of the most important parts of the medical school application. This essay allows you to speak directly to the admissions committee and to distinguish yourself not only as a set of test scores and grades, but as a unique individual who has a compelling story to share – all in 5300 characters or less!

The Pre-Health Personal Statement Workshop will provide you with brainstorming strategies, insider information on the qualities of an effective personal statement, and examples of good and sub-par statements. All students who attend the workshops will also be scheduled to meet one-on-one with an experienced writing tutor to discuss their drafts.

The workshops are led by Seema Dahlheimer, Lecturer in Engineering; Fran Hooker, Writing Programs Coordinator for Cornerstone; and Dr. Joan Downey, Assistant Dean, College of Arts & Sciences, Pre-Health Professions Advisor, and Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics.

The workshops are appropriate for Juniors, Seniors, and Post-Bac students applying to medical, dental, or veterinary school this year.

All workshops are from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. unless otherwise noted.
