Apply to be in TRiO

TRiO Application Process

Students who are eligible to participate in TRiO are required to complete and submit an application. TRiO is currently accepting applications from all current WashU students (individuals graduating in 2022 or earlier).

To determine if you are eligible to participate in TRiO, consider first if you are first-generation, low-income and/or have a learning or physical disability. If you are unsure about meeting the requirements, contact Student Financial Services (888-547-6670, Additionally, review your financial assistance award and notice if you are a Pell Grant recipient. Contact Disability Resources regarding accommodations or questions about disability status.

Eligibility Criteria

First-generation college student (meet at least one of the three)

  1. A student whose biological or adoptive parents have not received a baccalaureate degree from an accelerated college or university;
  2. A student who, prior to the age of 18, regularly resided with and received support from only one parent and whose supporting parent did not receive a baccalaureate degree;
  3. An individual who, prior to the age of 18, did not regularly reside with or receive support from a natural or an adoptive parent.

Individual with a disability
A person who has a disability, as that term is defined in section 12102 of the Americans with Disabilities Act (42 U.S.C. 12101 et seq.).

Low-income individual
An individual whose family’s taxable income did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount in the calendar year preceding the year in which the individual initially participated in the project. The poverty level amount is determined by using criteria of poverty established by the Bureau of the Census of the U.S. Department of Commerce (Federal TRiO Programs Current-Year Low-Income Levels chart).
